This project explores the crossover between traditional painting and contemporary digital media, where I combine my paintings which display abstract, geometric representations of facial features with dynamic effects and video projections. The foundation of this project are the faces in my paintings which are deliberately abstracted, reducing recognizable features into simple lines, shapes, and bold colors. By overlaying digital projections onto these surfaces, I am able to bring it to life and use animations, videos, and effects to fill the gaps, distort and interact with the colors and forms. The first layer of projections that I focused on was the eyes, i created a series of animated eyes to resemble movement and blinking. I then collected and created a collection of videos and effects to lay over the paintings, carefully isolating and masking them onto areas marked out on the paintings. Throughout this process color was a central element in both the painted works and the projections, the fusion of light and the painted pigment allowed for a greater exploration of color dynamics. When I completed the projection mapping I ended up with 23 quads, each adding a crucial aspect to the overall cohesiveness and transformation. Within this project, I have embarked on a new journey by adding video projections onto my paintings, opening up an entirely new way of thinking about creating and experiencing my work. Ultimately, this process was not just about creating something visually compelling, but also embracing a process of continual evolution, and i look forward to explore this new realm further.
