Brainstorm Blog #3 : Light Pollution

elcu1331

As I begin brainstorming for project 3, Light Pollution, I am quick to decide on projecting onto my own artwork. I have developed a small collection of my paintings and collages, which all display these abstract, geometric facial features, created with a palette of bright colors. I plan to use software such as Madmapper and VDMX to bring these pieces to life, adding movement and animations to the faces as well as considering color theory to plan how the projections will interact with the physical surfaces. Throughout my art practices, color is always consistent, I may not plan on it but I always end up with a vibrant, color filled piece. I think that color and color theory will be a fundamental tool in shaping this project both visually and emotionally. The incorporation of projections will allow me to experiment with color in ways I haven't before. This is a cool opportunity to re-conceptualize my existing work, and not simply just adding a video onto the surface, but how I can enhance and transform it into an entirely new realm of meaning and experience. I have been looking forward to this project, it feels like stepping into a new exciting territory, and one that I have been wanting to explore for a long time.
